THE PRESS MUST BE FREE TO REPRESENT THE INTEREST OF THE AVERAGE CITIZENS, MUST BE DEMOCRATIZE TO INCLUDE A CROSS SECTION OF SOCIETY.

Our press in Jamaica since independence is owned and controlled by the 5% that own and control the majority of our national resources and assets. This arrangement sees the majority of our people defenseless against the abuse by the powerful and government excess. The fact that corruption is so rampant is the collusion of the owners of the print, electronic media, and government officials. We concur with the decision of the ruling of the court in Trinidad that the police raiding of the newspaper, Trinidad Express was unconstitutional.

'The role of accurate and responsible investigative journalism is therefore vital as unearthed information obtained by such journalists can empower the citizenry and guard against inequity, discrimination, corruption, public malfeasance, and maladministration by holding the influential, wealthy, and the powerful accountable". Justice Rampersaud,s Jamaica Gleaner, Editorial, 01/17/2021.
