It is very interesting how our media and political actors mislead our people in regards to this crippling debt that is now destroying our social fabric. Both political parties should accept the blame of putting our country on this failed economic path. It is also ironic that the parliament was showering praise on the two political architect of our current problems.Mr Edward Seaga, one of the honoree, the darling of the free marketers and puppet of United States economic policies, he is well known for his treasonous lobbying against giving loans/aid to Jamaica during the young administration of the Michael Manley administration. Mr.Patterson, the other honoree initiated the wholesale selling of our national asset and saw under his governance the rapid rise in murder, suicide, alienation and the transfer of wealth from the average Jamaican to the wealthy.
The majority of our debt is owed to Jamaican private interest, over seven hundred and fifty billion dollars which represent seventy five percent of our total debt. Then, why are we only looking at the IMF?The next fact is that we are paying eleven percent interest on this loan, seven times what the local Jamaicans are getting on their savings account in foreign own banks. The government should renegotiate a new deal with the bondholders in Jamaica; it is time they show their love for their country!! Reduce the interest payment on the debt to two percent and use the savings to invest in youth employment, agriculture and housing.
