The Rastafarian community is gaining renewed vigor after such a long drought with the fight for its birthright that was wronged by these emerging investments entity responding to the Government call for investing in Jamaica, “We are ripe for business”. What this means practically is the widespread dislocation of black indigenous Jamaican’s force to give up their land due to harsh economic conditions and illegal manipulations of titles. Due to the lack of organization and unity of the ordinary Jamaicans their voice is not heard. In the western part of Jamaica Powerful land barons have joined with powerful surveyors in changing boundaries thus infringing and stealing under legal cover lands from their rightful owners.
The Rastafarian communities although under different denominations are more united and are beneficiary of a glorious history of defying colonial orders and oppression and will fight for Justice. We must extend our support to them and encourage a wider co-operation with their fellow Jamaicans to fight this draconian IMF program. The Government must stand with the people to protect their culture and dignity against these powerful interests. We must put a stop to this form of disenfranchisement. Is this Government by the people for the rich?
