We endorse the idea of overhauling the trade act which has been in existence since 1955. The suggestion by him to put all trade-related entities under one roof is valid and necessary. The trade act must include a provision against price gouging and profiteering by unscrupulous businesses. The pandemic has further emboldened businesses to profit heavily on the weakness of our consumers. The trade enforcement agency recommended by him to enable quality and approve products to enter our country should have been in place years ago to meet the global competitive challenges. Government must take the initiative to protect our sovereignty and not leave it to the private sector which has failed in delivering on its promises over the years.
