The fight for our nationhood must go the full distance, our sovereignty. Our current state of affairs is a result of allowing our economic and political life to be dictated by colonial and imperial forces.
Our current governance is faced with a lack of confidence in their people's desire for real independence. It is best summed up in the following quote, "The discussion is focussed on the removal of the anachronistic tradition of the queen as head of state and replacing her with our indigenous ceremonial president.
The repatriation of our constitution and a head of state in our image are viewed as important for building self-confidence as a nation. I suggest that the ultimate statement of confidence is to move from the sovereignty of the queen to the sovereignty of the people" ( Rosaelea Hamilton, Ph.D., founding director, Insitute of Law and Economics, Jamaica Gleaner,12/12/2022, REMOVING THE QUEEN IS NOT ENOUGH)
