The new mandated government of the Honorable Portia Simpson Miller should immediately meet with the Private sector and the major bondholders of our national debt to facilitate a memorandum of understanding wherein the payment of the debt be suspended for five years. If the bondholders, holders of nearly seven hundred billions dollars which is about sixty five percent of our gross domestic products can come to this patriotic agreement would enable our country to invest in housing, agriculture and manufacturing. This money owed by the government was created by the bad economic policies carried out by both parties since independence. The poor cannot sacrifice anymore!! It is time for the rich in Jamaica to show its loyalty and love for Jamaica by playing their part and not strive to have us strangle by the draconian austerity program of the International monetary fund.
The moribund thinking of the past by the rich in this country of being comfortably acting as brokerage for multinational is outdated. Mr. Peter Melhado emphasize “the need for an urgent examination of how we do business nationality”, Mr. Gordon Butch Stewart have impress upon the government the urgent need to put our country on a export platform, Reverend Dr. Wellesley stated “we are a sovereign nation. No one from outside must tell us what to do”. These exhortations from these prominent gentlemen compliment what our movement mission is all about, putting our national interest first. The popular expression of our people against the IMF austerity program demand a paradigm shift in our political/economipolicies.
