The recruiting of foreign security personnel by the then minister of national security, Dr. Peter Phillips was an insult to the Jamaica Constabulary force and an attempt to revert back to the colonial period when the British rule supreme as a colonial power over its subjects.
The recent firing of Professor Simoes and our supreme performance at the Olympic with the utterance by the worlds fastest of “YAM” as a contributing factor should lay the basis of reclaiming our national identity. We can solve our own problem as a people if the two tribal entities would govern on behalf of the majority of our people and not just serve the interest of the rich and powerful. Since Mark Shield was hired in Jamaica we have seen the spiraling of our crime and murder rate which under any jurisdiction he would have been fired within three months. All foreign security personnel should be subordinate to our local security personnel or sent packing.
The solution to the crime problem has to be approach by involving all sectors of the society. It must be treated as a national crisis, it is currently not because the people who are place in charge represent the status quo and are not exposed to it because they live in the cool and tranquil environment of St Andrew. Jamaica Patriot recommend that there should be a meeting with the top security brass with the leader of both parties, the private sector, victims of violence, the leaders of all the garrisons in Jamaica, yes all the garrisons leaders, it is public knowledge that during election they are used to further the politician power ambition therefore it is okay to have them as part of the solution.
This meeting should be televised so all Jamaicans can hear and see the various recommendation coming from all sectors. All media outlet should restrict the promotion of violence. The Ministry of Education should mandate the teaching of Marcus Garvey, Norman Manley, Sam Sharpe, Nanny, Paul Bogle, Michael Manley and George William Gordon as prerequisite for graduation at all level of our educational institution. The foreign banks in Jamaica should set aside twenty five percent of their total profit to be invested in the garrison community. Lastly the ministry of culture should censor all violent material coming from the United States. This would be a step in the right direction.
