Jamaica,s Crime Rate

Jamaica has been undergoing tremendous Economic pressure especially with the introduction of the International Monetary Fund structural adjustment program. The IMF program when instituted is really a no –growth policy thus when the Government call for growing the economy it is deceiving the general public. This program of economic destruction calls for foreign and local investors to drive the economy and to relegate the government to taxation and policing. Lets us look at the reality as it appear in Jamaica. All our banks are foreign owned and all the profits, over three billion per quarter is repatriated. Most of our hospitality workers earn less than fifty United States dollars a week, plus they have no medical coverage. The cost of housing and foodstuff is skyrocketing. Professional are force to migrate to survive. The medical system is in a deplorable situation. Roads in residential neighborhood are filled with potholes. Most of our farmers are driven off the land due to our import policies which favors foreign items over local products.

The Local businesses under this arrangement to maximize profit reduce the labor force and use mostly contract workers with no benefits attached.  Female security workers at the various ports are sexually abused to ensure continued employment if caught on the job sleeping. The youths to survive in this climate have only to resort to the sex trade, scamming and other illicit behavior. The officials in government and the opposition then is confused about the rising crime rate, they really are out of touch with the effect of their own policies
