The Jamaica labor party just decided on the leadership of a party that has yet to represent the true meaning of its title "labor party". It is well known within the Jamaican electorate that the party tends to represent the interest of the rich and powerful and was partly to be blamed for the roll back of the self reliance and Nationalist program of the Michael Manley's government. One of the Jamaica Labor Party unpatriotic acts during the tenure of Edward Seaga, s leadership was to lobby against US aid to Jamaica.
In congratulating Mr. Holness on his defeat of the darling of the Bond holders in Jamaica, Audley Shaw, the time is now for the remaking of the party to represent labor. The Jamaican labor force standard of living is constantly being eroded by the poisonous effect of the International Monetary Fund and the volcanic effect of corruption, crime and unconscionable profit taking by foreign and local companies. Mr. Holness, this problem must be tackled by abandoning the IMF, renationalization of country's asset with us having the majority share, broadening our trade relations, investing in our local manufacturing sector to create jobs, utilizing our solar capacity to bring down the cost of energy, building community clinics to retain our nurses, building internet cafes for our youth to be computer literate, building affordable houses and amending the constitution to democratize our public and government sector. Our people need this of your governance not the mendacious and moribund policies of the past.
