During the last general election between then Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and Opposition leader Bruce Golding which was hotly contested between a choice of “staying the course” and “changing course”, the former being the platform of Miss Portia Simpson Miller, it is clear that the Golding administration has opted to stay the course by continuing the failed privatization policies of the Patterson, Davies and Phillips administration.
He is about to complete the total sell off the sugar factory displacing hundreds of cane farmers and the impending liquidation of Air Jamaica. The privatization of Jamaica national assets resulted during the Patterson administration the rapid decline in disposable income due to increase in unemployment, increase cost of utilities, increase cost of basic food, rampant corruption, alienation among the youth, record breaking murder rate and robberies.
At the same time we have witness the record profit making of local and foreign companies. Mr.Golding have definitely study the strategy employed by Mr. Patterson of getting the popular vote from the masses and then serving only the vested interest of the rich and powerful. What Mr.Golding should also study is the reason why Portia Simpson Miller lost the election; she failed to deliver on her promises.
