On behalf of our people, the Jamaica Patriotic Movement sends greetings to the Cuban people on their 61st-anniversary celebration. The Cuban revolution with the genius of its leader, Fidel Castro, has shown what can be accomplished when the salt of the earth governs itself. The revolution has outlasted over six presidents of the United States under the most brutal economic embargo ever inflicted on a nation but yet they rise!! They have ensured that their people are the center of economic planning, guaranteed free education, free medical care, and affordable housing. They have proven that mankind need not employ a cannibalistic system wherein the survival of the fittest, rob or be robbed is the mantle of existence. On the international scene, they fought for peace and dialogue between nations, a nuclear-free world, a nuclear-free Caribbean, a new financial arrangement to benefit poor countries, a Palestinian state and to eliminate poverty. They provide medical care to countries that are in need and open their medical schools to assist students who are in need financially to become medical doctors, these acts done while subjected to psychological warfare to discredit the possibilities of socialism. Long live Cuba!!!
